[ It's late into the night. North and South are rooming together tonight, and right now, both of them are heartily sawing logs. Theta had waited until this hour on purpose; he doesn't want their conversation to be interrupted by either of the agents. He'd tried connecting via a network connection but Delta seems to be isolated away from the main network, so instead he projects and speaks out loud. ]
Ah, yes. I was hoping to find an opportunity to ask you about York myself. I find it is most inconvenient to be confined to this storage device, it certainly limits such opportunities.
[ He doesn't want the twins hearing anything Theta or he may have to say anymore than Theta does. Particularly South. ]
The silence in York's head is bothering him more than even the usual today. He goes for a walk around the rig, browses in the library for something he hasn't read yet, stops for a snack, but finds himself drifting back to the dorms -- and to the room South shares with North, just in case she's there.
He still doesn't quite know how to handle her in light of the revelation Delta gave him, but he wants to talk to his buddy. Maybe he'll just be a bit less antagonistic about it? His presence will probably annoy her even if he does acknowledge her presence.
When he reaches the room he sees that she is in fact there, sprawled on her bunk. He knocks at the doorframe.
"Hey South. Can I talk to D?"
Before what they know now, he would have just come in and sat down and started chatting with the AI. He might not seem to care about her presence right now but. Baby steps.
South rolls her eyes whilst her expression is still mostly out of sight, before pushing herself up to half-sit and stare, expression halfway between resting bitch face and actual annoyance.
Him wanting to talk to Delta again was inevitable. She's just glad he didn't try and start something over it during that verification bullshit.
"Ugh, fine," she says, if only because, "Like you care about if I say yes or not anyway."
Delta projects from the puck before she even finishes talking.
To be honest, York isn't certain he would have relented if she said no despite his resolution to be nicer, so it's a relief when she does give them 'permission.'
He smiles genuinely, taking a seat on North's bunk.
"Thanks." Then, a little softer, "Hey, D. How was the lockdown?"
The smile throws her for a miniature loop and she narrows her eyes at him, slightly, before just rationalising it was for Delta and shaking her head. She pulls herself to sit up properly so she's at least not physically uncomfortable during this, propping herself against the wall but not looking at York.
"Agent South and I were some of the few to get to leave the rooms for an extended period of time, so it was of little impact to me, personally. I believe it is I who should ask how you found it, considering that initially you were locked in on your own, York."
South quietly rolls her eyes again. "They opened the doors up eventually, it's not like he was in solitary fuckin' confinement."
She's already braced to not be acknowledged, this time.
"She's right, it wasn't so bad." She could have some more compassion for someone as social of him being stuck alone while his friends ran around hunting a shapeshifter, but. Also she's not wrong. "And I had the network."
He was set loose after Theta vetted him, too. The physical isolation wasn't for too long.
[ North and South don't always—or even often—sit together for meals here on the rig, but this morning North slides in at the table across from her when he arrives for breakfast.
Two things to note about this situation: for one thing, arriving after South means he's late. That and the secret way he's smiling. He looks like someone who's just gotten away with something— probably because he has. ]
[ South raises an eyebrow, giving him a very clear 'uh, what's with you?' look as she finishes chewing and swallows so she can speak. ]
Uh, good morning? What's that look for? And don't try and say you don't have a look, because you do. I know your fuckin' looks. [ squint ] What have you done now?
[ She's suddenly glad she wasn't drinking something or she's pretty sure she'd have just choked on it. She's looking at him with a frankly comical disbelief, her mouth opening and closing a couple of times like a fish before she finally says: ]
Okay, who the fuck are you, and what have you done with my brother? A day? A day?
Maybe the fuckin' babadon't did get you after all. I should be checking you for fuckin'— goop! Or— whatever. I don't know.

[ South almost doesn't respond. Almost. ]
I'm fine. Gonna take more than Price's bullshit to get to me. Got to punch him a couple times the other day and he knows I'll do it again so...
[ Pause. ]
North, if this is because he fuckin' told me I should talk to you...
no subject
I didn't call you because of anything he said.
no subject
[ She believes him. It takes a bit of effort, but she believes him, and that's something. That's a relief. ]
Good. Because this conversation would be over if you had.
[ This takes a bit of effort, too: ]
...are you alright?

He pretty much hit that.

Delta?

[ Delta projects above South's torso, out of the puck still resting on her chest even as she sleeps. ]
Yes, Theta?
no subject
I just...wanted to talk to you. Mostly about York.

[ Delta nods. ]
Ah, yes. I was hoping to find an opportunity to ask you about York myself. I find it is most inconvenient to be confined to this storage device, it certainly limits such opportunities.
