[ ...interesting. York doesn't know what to make of the message, whether she knows the others or why she'd check in with him specifically except just to be nice. Which, hey, sometimes people are! But after everything that's happened today he's a little on edge.
He sounds friendly and upbeat anyway when he replies. ]
Hey Stacia.
Tensions are running high right now but we'll be alright. I hope you know not to listen to anything that comes out of Price's mouth.
I believe the bits about committing war crimes and that he's never felt sincere remorse in his life, is that cool?
[If she could still see spirits -- if spirits existed in this world -- she'd bet money that Price is crawling with Wyrm nastiness.]
I was kind of hoping for an update on Washington too: he seemed pretty wigged and it looked like you were going to go talk to him. Is there anywhere we could meet up?
[ North was asked by Kerrigan to talk to everyone on the list who's still in the dorms, so he makes the rounds while Theta keeps track of who he needs to talk to and what they had to say. North's not entirely What the Xs mean, and he's ready for various outcomes.
North was already nearby York when he spoke to Kerrigan, so he gestures to York to come with him to the edge of the hallway. ]
Hey, so since you were on that list I've been asked to check in with you. As far as we know it means you couldn't possibly be the shapeshifter.
[ North knows York was teasing about playing Truth of Dare with him, but he also wants a fun distraction from the day-to-day of this place. The company had offered everyone a jello cup as a reward for defeating the monster, and that just hadn't been enough. He figures hanging out and partying with his best friend will be a good substitute for an adequate reward. So he takes a couple of the small bottles of alcohol and some of the gourmet chocolates that South had stolen from the reward suites and comes down to York's room a while after dinner.
He knocks on the door frame and comes on in, flopping down on the bed across from York's. ]
[ York is sitting with his back against the wall, absorbed in the drama of a book in his lap, but his head snaps up at the knock. And he always has a smile for North. ]
Hey.
[ He sets the book aside, face down so he doesn't lose his page, and tilts his head curiously. North has been coming by for help with his burns, but it's only 7. ]
The last several days have been... a bit of a mindfuck, for South, to say the least. So much has happened so quickly, everything with York and Wrath and North all coming at her rapid fire, too fast for her usual defenses to rebuild. She's making choices she'd never usually make, saying things she'd never usually say, and it's all somehow lead to this.
She makes it almost to York's room before briefly stalling, turning on her heel as if to leave, but with a silent groan of frustration she turns again and steps into the room's open doorway before she can change her mind.
"I'm heading down to do some training, if you wanna come talk to Delta," she says. The splint on her hand is gone, where she's using it to lean against the doorframe. "Don't need the splint anymore but they said not to 'push it', so..."
She shrugs. Playing it off like this isn't extremely fucking weird, for her to come to him like this. She has her reasons, a couple of them in fact, but if someone had asked her even a week ago if she'd ever approach York first, she'd have laughed in their face.
York is sitting in bed reading, and glances up when he hears footsteps approaching his door. He has no reason to expect visitors so expects it to be someone passing by... but lo and behold it's South, and she comes straight into his room. He blinks at her.
This is very weird, but whether she's seeking company or extending an olive branch York will take it. He smiles, setting his book aside and swinging his legs off the bed to put his boots back on.
"I'm down. Thanks."
Because it's a kindness, offering him a conversation with his buddy. Even if South has other motives, he doesn't really care.
She huffs to play it off, as she so often does, and shrugs. "Yeah, well, figure you two have some fuckin' talking to do, considering, and I wanna train, so. Two birds one stone and all that."
There's a lot of implication, buried in that 'considering'. She shifts to lean against the doorframe on her shoulder, rather than her hand, as she waits for him to get his boots on, and glances around the room. Looking for any signs of North's staying here, making sure the idiots aren't being sloppy about this.
Okay, geez, I'm relieved to hear that. It's weird for me, too, though—I apparently have a wife and a kid and I'm a high school teacher. This isn't me though...the guy I'm supposed to be is a total sleaze.
The invitation would be clear to anyone, but with context and York kind of learning to speak South lately, he can tell she's also asking for someone to talk to.
I'll be right there
And he's off to meet her. Sure enough, he finds her in the gym wrapping her hands.
She ties the wraps off tight and rolls her shoulders. She doesn't immediately look at him, but after a deep inhale and exhale she does, and the expression in her eyes is... a little raw. She doesn't look like she's been crying, but it's hard to know for sure.
"Hey." Her voice cracks slightly and she groans, drags her hand through her hair. Grumbles at its length and ties it into a stupid little ponytail. "I'll... I'll get into it all in a minute. I just..."
[ We interrupt York's emotional Freelancer catharses and whatnot, no preamble or greetings included, with: Junior. Please, hold your applause. Or don't. ]
What did I tell you, dude? My kid fucking rules. Total baller. He could have beat up any of those other kids and I would've let him get away with it 'cause he's awesome.
[ Tucker remembered that he said he'd show off this picture when he got it back, but basically everyone he would've shown it to was busy being on that long-ass mission when he did get it back. And then there was important Wash emotional stuff, and bullshit roommate stuff, and basically just life doing life. But now it's remembering: the sequel.
Is this the power of using his brain cells? Yes. ]
[ North and York haven't been a couple all that terribly long in the scheme of things, not with that last mission intervening and taking up all their time. And the fact that they have to sneak around certainly doesn't help matters. Their first night back they spend it together in York's room, and as usual, they start out cuddling as they drift off to sleep, but their sheer size eventually forces North to switch to the other bed sometime in the night in order to be fully comfortable. This is nothing new. North wishes they could share a bed more fully, but there's no way now for them to convince the Jorg that they'd been married all along and get one of those double bed rooms. They would have had to say so as soon as York had arrived, and they hadn't.
So it's nothing new when North awakens alone in the bed on the opposite side of the room. What is new is the flood of memories that comes in as he's floating up out of unconsciousness.
He sits up very suddenly and very stiffly, hitting his head on the bunk above. Not too hard, thankfully, but he starts rubbing the spot where he'd whacked it in confusion. Wrath had told him about their time together, and about the city of Proles, but now he's actually able to recall it. That's can't be right. He must be inventing it in his head because of being told about it. ]

[ York is a fairly light sleeper, after being on the run for so long. Even without Delta keeping watch and alerting him to things, that's carried over to the rig. So when he hears a thunk he stirs immediately, rolling over towards the sound.
He sees North on the opposite bed -- not a strange thing in and of itself -- sitting up looking shocked in the dim light coming from the hall. Stretching to wake up a little more, York props his head up on his arm and speaks just loudly enough to be heard from where he is. ]

South still can't believe she's doing this.
