[ He pats her knee, then stands. ]

[ She looks up at him as he stands, then gets up a second later and pulls him into a proper, tight hug, chin digging into his shoulder. ]

[ It’s quiet. She knows they just said it, but... it feels more important than usual, worth repeating, this time. ]

[ He smiles and returns the embrace. ]

[ It’s a typical jokey deflection from showing her more vulnerable side that he’ll recognise. She gives him a nice tight squeeze, knocks the sides of their heads together, then lets go. ]

[ When she goes in to bop their heads together, he returns the motion, and lets go when she does. ]

[ She snorts a laugh and shoves him, before backing up toward the door. ]

I didn't deny it.

[ He takes the shove without much resistance, and starts following her as they make their way out to head to the gym. The afternoon feels better than anything has for a while, even though South has to be so careful about her hand. They find ways to work out in tandem, even despite this handicap, and North thinks everything's fine. Just fine. ]
