And if you're concerned about keeping something on the down low, I am also very responsible with other people's secrets. By which I mean that I keep them until they become everyone's problem, and then I point out to the person that they belong to that they have become a problem.

I don't think you can use the "tiny girl" defense when you can turn into a giant wolf monster.

But it's fine, there are no secrets and you don't need to save me from Brand. This is normal and I have lived with it for more than three decades. I'm mostly just curious what you did to piss him off.

It works a LOT better when I can accessorize with larger, crankier wolf monsters, I'll tell you that much!

IDK exactly where his patience finally snapped, but it was either me explaining that the meat piñata position is currently occupied or the part where I said that non-answers only make me more curious.

Yeah. That'd do it. He doesn't have much patience for anyone being mouthy, and he's even more tense than normal here. Understandably.

[ North was asked by Kerrigan to talk to everyone on the list who's still in the dorms, so he makes the rounds while Theta keeps track of who he needs to talk to and what they had to say. North's not entirely What the Xs mean, and he's ready for various outcomes.

North finds his target soon enough, and gestures for him to come with him to the side of the hallway, despite him having a hanger-on who is still nearby. ]

Hey, just checking in with you, since you were on that list. As far as we know it means you couldn't possibly be the shapeshifter, so I'd like to ask your help in working out who it could actually be.

[Rune does not make it even as far as the hallway before he's prevented from going any further by the asshole who's planted himself in the doorway of their dorm. Still, he doesn't look surprised by this. Annoyed and deeply exasperated, sure, but not surprised.

But hey, he's sick of just sitting here, so he pokes his head over Brand's shoulder.]

That list isn't the reason it couldn't possibly be either of us. But that does lend some support to our assumptions about that list, so...fair.

North will recognize that Brand is absolutely prepared to fight him: he's not hostile or aggressive, just...professional. Anything that wants to pass through this door is going to have to go through Brand first, and Brand won't make it easy for them.]

This thing has either fucking eaten a whole person already, or it's had to hide them somewhere. I don't know how long it takes for it to digest someone, but there are only so many places here they could hide an unconscious or dead body. Might be a good place to start.

[ North recognizes that; he's now being careful to keep his distance, despite also trying to remain close enough that he can speak in a confidential tone of voice. He nods in agreement. ]

Yeah, good thinking. If you know of any spots like that, it would probably be good to start making a systematic search of them. You, ah, want to team up on that?

[ He's really not very sure they will. ]

But there are only so many places in the dorms that a body could be stashed. It wouldn't be that hard to search it all. We just have a little problem in the form of "too many people loitering around that could easily mess with the search".

Other people are a problem.

The plumbing here couldn't handle draining a body, and cutting one up without draining it would be messy and fucking obvious, so it's still in one piece. The person hasn't started making noises yet, so they're either dead, sedated, or otherwise unable to call out. Washburn said it didn't kill any of the kids, so presumably whoever it targeted had a chance to fight back. I'd check the rooms without neighbors first.

[ North ignores the fact that Brand is blocking the way the way he is. He's offering up helpful information, at least. ]
