[this is very sad but it's also true, Setsuna has not done a thing to personalize their room since she got here, so has nothing to leave around anywhere, yet. oops]

i'm making some stuff in the kitchen do you want some if i bring u leftovers. no big deal if you don't.

Oh, I wondered where you were sneaking off to at this hour. You're doing better at making new friends than I am, it seems ...

Well, I'll try and clean things up for when you get back! What did you make?

we're not friends. tenten just found out i didn't know how to cook and i'm not going to turn down free food

[they are definitely friends. Setsuna makes a note to try and talk to the ninja girl at some point outside of exchanging a few comments on the network.]

I had friends, back on one of the worlds I'm from, who taught me how to do them with my phone. So even if we all type mostly in another language here I can still do them when I type anyway (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

[and she will be, too; the place looks well-cleaned, like she said it would be, when Catra steps in, everything sorted out as best as Setsuna could manage. she still has no idea what "stuff" is supposed to have been hers, but she put anything that looked like it wasn't where it was supposed to be away anyway.]

[she's very curious whether the food is, in fact, good. not that she thinks Catra's lying about it being good to her but she also knows from personal experience that everything tastes good when you only know bad food for most of your life, so ...]

[ Catra ducks in through the still permanently open door, a pair of plastic food dishes stacked in her hands. The kitchen staff had been kind enough to lend them, with the caveat that they be returned promptly. Along with utensils, she sets them down on the small coffee table in their common space. ]

Hey.

[ Catra plops down and opens both containers--both smell just fine. ]

Thought you might want some food that's not on the normal menu, you know?

[ Not that they're friends or anything. Duh. ]

[Setsuna offers a tired wave, looking up, and says, just as easily -]

Hey.

[and it's not like she has to adjust to it all - whatever process it was that brought them all here meant she never had to - and it's not like her friends' Japanese was ever terribly formal, but sometimes the ease with which the little casual informalities of English come to her still catches her off-guard, after it happens. "Hey" is an odd word to use instead of "Hello" in her mouth, but it doesn't feel like it, and that itself feels odder still -]

[- so after she says it, she allows herself a moment of exhausted reflection on the weirdness of life on the Rig before sliding herself into a chair, eyes curious and eager even if she definitely looks like she should probably have stayed asleep, herself. not that she was asleep very firmly anyway.]

[she beams at Catra, sincerely pleased despite her tiredness.] Thanks, Catra. I know you didn't have to.

[ Catra, like Setsuna, should probably just back to sleep. They'll have to be up for training in the morning and it's already late. She smiles at the other, slumps back in her seat. ]

Eh, we couldn't it at all and I'd rather it get eaten, that's all.

[ Her cheeks turn a touch warmer at the praise. Not that she'd admit it. ]

[sleep is for people that aren't used to functioning on Real Nightmare Hours as if they're functioning like they weren't. Catra knows this; Setsuna knows she knows this, because they're both well acquainted with their mutual tendency to just fail to sleep much or at all, some nights, and isn't going to do anything so cruel as discuss what they both know aloud.]

[so she smiles, and doesn't consider if eating anything this late will give her weirder dreams or not.]

Of course. I don't mind leftovers, anyway. Especially not if they're made by - [is it too soon for "friends?" it might be too soon] - a good roommate.

Well. I just didn't want it to go to waste.

[ It's not like she likes Setsuna or anything. Hmph. Catra rubs the back of her neck a touch awkwardly, then slouches back in her chair. ]

Plus this whole cooking thing broke up how boring this place is.

[she smiles a bit wanly down at the food, pausing for a breath before actually digging in.] ... it's nice to have something to do, isn't it? Instead of all this ... waiting for the next shoe.

[she doesn't say "other shoe"; there've been enough shoes dropped already, between the sentient office supplies and the exceedingly awkward office party and the - everything else, that it's well past just one shoe in this metaphor, by now.]

[and then she takes a bite and tastes the food Catra made, and is momentarily struck silent, eyes wide.]

What shoe?

[ Sorry, Setsuna, Catra doesnt really get that particular idiom. She straightens a little as Setsuna takes a bite and goes silent. Catra's tail, already lazily flicking before puffs up a little and starts to go even faster. Catra is tense. For some reason it feels more important that Setsuna like the food than Dave. ]

If you don't like it, it's fine. I'll just eat it or something.

[ Better put up those defensive walls now. Just to be safe. This is stupid. Why did she think Setsuna would like her food? Why did she think it was important for Setsuna to like her food? ]
